What is in the code
A vCard — the same .vcf format phones and email programs have exchanged contacts in for decades — as plain text: BEGIN:VCARD, name, phone, email and so on, END:VCARD. Camera apps recognise it and offer "Add contact". Because everything is inside the code, it works offline and does not depend on any website staying up, which is the difference from the "link to a profile page" codes some services sell.
Keeping it scannable
More text means a denser code. A name, one phone number, one email and a website scan easily at business-card size; adding a full postal address and a note pushes the code towards the limit of what a phone camera reads from 20 cm. Prioritise, and print at 2.5 cm (1 inch) or larger. The medium error-correction level used here lets a small logo overlay or minor damage pass.

What happens when someone scans it?
The phone recognises the vCard format and offers to add a new contact with your details filled in. No app is needed on iPhone or Android; the camera app handles it.
Why is the code so dense?
The whole contact card is inside it, and a full address plus a note adds a lot of text. Keep the card to the essentials for a smaller, easier-to-scan code, and print it at least 2.5 cm across.
Will the code stop working if I change my details?
The details are baked into the code, so an old code carries old details. That is also its strength: it works offline forever and depends on no website. Generate a new one when your details change.
Is my information uploaded?
No. The vCard is built and encoded in your browser and never sent to this site.
Can I add a photo or a logo?
Photos make the code far too large to scan reliably and are not supported. A small logo can be placed over the centre of the downloaded code in an image editor; the medium error-correction level tolerates covering up to about 10% of the modules.
